Val Formazza

The oldest colony founded by the Germanic people during their 13th century migration beyond the borders of the Canton of Valais via the Gries Pass.

Formazza, known as “Pomatt” in the local language of Walser, is a fine example of the wealth of cultural heritage in this valley on the border with Switzerland.

The Val Formazza is also home to a number of other highlights, including many summer hiking trails and a winter landscape that is perfect for cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoe walking, and the new form of cycling with fat bikes.

Lastly, do not miss Toce waterfalls, a spectacular 143 m high leap, the most powerful cascade in Europe.
