Domodossola

If you are interested in history, Domodossola is a place you have to visit. Formerly known as Oscella dei Leponzi, and the capital of the local region, it lies on a plain where the Bogna and Toce rivers meet.

Domodossola has ancient origins, having been founded in pre-Roman times by the Lepontii people. Around the year 12 AD, it fell under Roman control.

In subsequent centuries, it was invaded by the Huns, the Goths and the Longobards; later, the Franks, under Charlemagne, took over before the reign of the Counts of Novara began.

Tradition has it that in the year 917 Berengar I of Italy granted Domodossola a weekly market, which is still held every Saturday, attracting locals and tourists alike.
